Well, I don't tend to actually post much on LJ, mainly because there's nothing I really wish to share 9/10, so simply don't present the facts of the life according to Ian anymore or I simply don't tend to believe my life is very abnormal. Thus this leaves open the moments when I do actually wish to share something of some kind of import...

So I'll just say Merry Christmas to all my friends and those that may get over the shock of me posting to read this far. Generally if you can read this, you are a friend, so that means you...yes you!

*blinkblink* [21 Oct 2007|10:57pm]
"Saturday, October 20, 2007 - The 13th Planet family is saddened to confirm the devastating news of the sudden and unexpected death of Ministry's bassist, Paul Raven. Raven was working with French recording artists Treponem Pal on their new collaboration with Ted Parsons (ex-Prong/ex-Killing Joke/Jesu) and members of The Young Gods in a small village on the French/Swiss border. Initial reports indicate Raven's passing was the result of a heart attack.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Raven's family and friends around the world. His love of life, artistic creations and joyful laughter touched and moved all of us deeply. The loss of this extraordinary artist, unique individual and loyal friend will be felt by many. The impact of his talents will be remembered forever but his contribution to the lives of everyone who knew him is his greatest legacy.

13th Planet has dedicated a page to the life and art of Paul Vincent Raven here.

0% Extroversion, 80% Intuition, 44% Emotiveness, 62% Perceptiveness

Heuristic, detached, and analytical to a fault, you are most like The Oracle. You are able to tackle any subject with a fine toothed comb, and you possess an ability to pinpoint nuances and shades of meaning that other people do not have and cannot understand. Accomplishment and realization of ideas are, for you, secondary to the rigorous exploration of ideas and questions -- you are, first and foremost, a theorist. You hate authority, convention, tradition, and under no circumstances do you accept a leadership role (although, you will gladly advise leadership when they're going astray, whether they want you to or not). Abstraction and generalities are your interests, details and particulars are usually inconsequential and uninteresting. You excel at language, mathematics and philosophy.

You are typically easy-going and non-confrontational until someone violates one of the very few principles that you deem sacred, at which point you can fly into a rage. Although you possess a much greater understanding of process and systems than the people around you, you are always conscious of the possibility that you've missed something or made a mistake. You don't tend to become attached to particular theories, and will immediately discard mistaken notions once they're revealed to be incorrect (but you don't tolerate iconoclasts who try to discredit validated theories through the use of fallacies and bad data). Despite being outwardly humble, you probably think of yourself as being smarter than most other people. That's because you are. In fact, in your dealings with people your understanding of their motives is so expansive that you know what they're going to say before they say it, and in world affairs, you usually know what is going to take place before it actually does. This ability would make you unbeatable in debates if only you were a little less pensive about your own conclusions, and a little more outgoing.

Famous people like you: Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Adam Smith, Thomas Jefferson, John McWhorter, Ramanujan, Marie Curie, Kurt Godel
Stay clear of: Apollo, Icarus, Hermes, Aphrodite
Seek out: Atlas, Prometheus, Daedalus

Can't argue with that really. Sounds pretty much on the ball. In fact, of all the MemememememeME's I'd have to say that is the most accurate description I've yet seen (although I do enjoy tradition if viable to the situation...mainly that of humour or amusement value).

You knows it; [19 May 2007|12:24pm]

You are The Hermit

Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.

The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.

The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.

The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.

The Update.... [12 May 2007|07:03pm]
OK, Broadband has been ordered as of yesterday, so now have the 15 day wait to go through. Still, one step closer to being back online and dear Gods it can not come too quick far as I'm concerned. My mobile is still offline as I havn't been paid since a month or two back, thus I'm currently a little on the uncontactable side. Best bet is find me on MSN since that just about runs on my parents ancient computer, or leave me a message here or MySpace since I check them every couple of days.

In further news we're gonna go storm The Pit in Hounslow tonight. Something to do, should be a giggle anyhow.

Two and a half bloody weeks!!! Tis like doom condensed and shoved into a tiny gap of...um...doom! But anyhow, finally convinced my parentals they need broadband in their life, only issue is we now need money on a credit card to activate the bastard. Still, fingers crossed only another 2-3 weeks of crapness before I can be connected back to the world wide web once more (I have a rogue to support yanno).

In other news I've not paid my phonebill yet, thus my phone is liable to be disconnected shortly, so if you send a message or call and dont get any response, then you'll know why.

Ah yes, departing from dull reflections, I made a jukebox thingy for a few profiles of my favourite tunes of the past and present. Came out quite interesting actually, so thought I'd list the tracks here:

Testament - Return To Serenity
Suicidal Tendencies - Asleep At The Wheel
Ministry - Scarecrow
A Perfect Circle - Magdalena
Prodigy - Narayan
Hypocrisy - When The Candle Lades
Faith No More - Stripsearch
Snake River Conspiracy - Love Song
Type On Negative - Wolf Moon
Strapping Young Lad - SYL
Mushroomhead - Sun Doesnt Rise
Underworld - Dirty Epic
Akira Yamaoka - You're Not Here
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Mastodon - Blood And Thunder
Entombed - Hollowman
Godflesh - Anthem
Acid Bath - Venus Blue
Massive Attack - What Your Soul Sings
Cubanate - Hate Song
16Volt - And I Go
Mary Beats Jane - Grind
Killing Joke - Black Moon
Morbid Angel - God Of Emptyness
Prick - Animal

Get the feeling I'll be adding more to that list over time. Fun though since every track I hear on it currently has some kind of memory attached. If I ever wanted to make an album of my life it'd probably look like that.

*Tap tap* This thing on? [08 Jan 2007|11:25am]
Um...it's alleged I'm not dead, although I'm not entirely convinced yet.

Hybernation for the year 2006 was rather immense. An unimpressive year to say the least that just made me even more introverted than usual. Ideas for 2007? Get myself out of this rutt would be a good one, but I have buggerall willpower or energy left. Presumably the seasonal depression will find some form of rejuvination at some point early in the year so might be able to get out and do something at least. Need to find a new job, although currently back in the depths of my Fathers company and finding myself to be not only running it, but also as of last Friday the ONLY person working for the company. As if I didnt have enough of a guilt trip previously about leaving to seek new employment before! Pretty much the current standing is this: if I leave, there is no more company meaning my Dad has nothing to fall back on if his current employment fails. Also means I have no money again. Yay! Go me. Bugger.

As for love life....well same old same old. Single and faux content. Numerous experiances has left me bitter and cynical, and with the current minimal energy levels, the concept of going out and meeting people really doesn't appeal. Thankfully the shrine to entertainment I have built around me keeps me from going bored.

At least there's a roof over my head for a couple of months, although we'll be moving around February. This is a dreaded thought since I have far too much stuff and packing will take forever. My other worry is that I'll be finding somewhere on my own. I used to enjoy being isolated when I went into hybernation, but over the years it's kinda been nice to be able to walk out of my room and chat to Olly before slinking off to the computer again or whathaveyou. Not sure if the isolation will be quite so interesting living in a room with perfect strangers around me. Then again may cause me to get my butt out more I suppose.

So the list of positives aren't looking great right now, but then I expect that since it's Wintery still. I'm not known for my optimistic outlook around this period, but as I've noted many a time, I do suffer from Seasonal Depression. Knowing this fact is pretty good though, since it means I can ignore the negative voices in my head with a full realisation that it's just a phase. We'll see how shit goes, I'm sure my next seemingly quaterly update on here will be more positive.
